Orlistat

Orlistat is a drug that can be given if you have a BMI of over 30 or more. (Or if you have a BMI 28 or more and have high blood pressure or diabetes).

Orlistat can only be used if you’ve already made significant adjustments to your lifestyle in an effort to lose weight through diet and exercise.

It works by preventing a third of the fat from the food you consume from being absorbed. This undigested fat then passes through the body and comes out as poo. It doesn’t necessarily help stop you from losing weight but does prevent you putting weight on.

Combined with a low-fat balanced diet and exercise. Orlistat can be an effective tool to aid weight loss.
