At Monkbar Pharmacy we want to support you in healthy lifestyle choices. We encourage our patients to be proactive in their health. One of the ways this can be done is exercising and eating well. If you are overweight, then this can lead to health conditions such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
The NHS has a handy tool on their website to work out your BMI.
We have a prescription only injectable medicine as part of our weight loss service where alongside a calorie-controlled diet and exercise is an effective way of losing weight. We want to help you to achieve healthy and sustained weight loss. The prescription medicine works by decreasing your appetite and therefore reducing food intake.
You will have ongoing support from our pharmacists to help you achieve and maintain weight loss.
This service is for patients 18-75 who have a BMI over 30 or who have a BMI over 27 and have certain medical risk factors such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or sleep apnoea.
The service includes:
- Medicated Injection (Link to the Summary of Product Characteristics)
- Needles and Sharps Bins
- Regular and Motivational follow ups with our pharmacists
After 12 weeks we will do a review with you. If you haven’t lost 5% of your initial body weight in 12 weeks, then we will stop the service and recommend an alternative treatment.
If you are just starting with the service, a pack of five pens will last 44 days.
After you have increased the dose to the normal maintenance dose, a pack of five pens will last 30 days. The monthly cost of the weight loss service is £300.
